London, 10 May 2023 – Only two years after PT1 – PropTech1 Ventures has made its first investment in the UK, it has substantially increased its British presence. The independent venture capital platform for transformative real estate technologies has now won its first prominent UK Venture Partner, Sally Jones.
Sally Jones is an experienced real estate professional, having been Head of Strategy, Digital and Technology and member of the Executive Committee of British Land, one of the largest property development and investment companies in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1856 in London, British Land owns or manages a portfolio of high quality UK commercial properties valued at £14.1bn, making it one of Europe’s largest listed real estate investment companies. Sally Jones is also Non-Executive Director at the tenant experience platform Equiem after having been Member of the Advisory Board at WiredScore, the global certification for technology in the built world.
The UK’s growing significance in PT1’s activities across Europe is also illustrated by the increasing number of investments in startups that tackle various problems that face the real estate industry. PT1 is to date already invested in four British companies, with more in the pipe: Desana, the flexible workspace platform enabling the future of work, FloodFlash, the future of climate risk insurance for the built world, Ontik, the digital trade credit platform on a mission to turn merchants into better banks for their SME clients, and Climate X, the platform for global climate risk data analytics.
PT1’s enhanced interest in the UK PropTech market is also expressed by the UK headcount: It now has four full-time employees on the ground in the London office located in the 22 Bishopsgate skyscraper, whose time is predominantly spent on sifting through the extensive offering of innovative British startup solutions. The UK team is lead by Kingma Ma, PT1 Managing Director UK, who was recently elected to the Board of the UK PropTech Association and is also part of the Solutions & Innovation Advisory Group of the UK Green Building Council.
